Default Fuel filter problems

I'm trying to change the fuel filter on my 2000 V6, and I can't get the fuel lines off of the old filter. The Haynes manual and the info I've found elsewhere on the internet basically say, after you take off the band and the clips, grasp the fuel lines, and pull them off. They make it sound like this is real easy- just pull 'em off. I can't get those bastards disconnected to save my life. Is there some trick to this, or do I just need to hit the gym?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Double check with Ford- I believe you need the little "C" filter wrench to remove it. There are 2 sizes sold at any autoparts store. Find out which one you need.
