Ford Taurus SHO
Here's the question: I'm wanting to build a mid-engine car with the Ford 302 5.0L v8 but I *need* to use a transaxle off a front wheel drive car (flip the ring gear/pinion so the transaxle can be mounted in the rear and drive the rear wheels -- unless the Taurus uses linkage cable which would make the job much easier). I was thinking about using the Ford Taurus 4 speed automatic transaxle. Can the transaxle handle the horses and torgue from the 5.0? And is there any real difference between the transaxle on the OHV/DOHC v6 compared to the SHO v8?
Here's a few specs: Ford Taurus SHO 32-valve, dual overhead cam v8 Horses: 235 @ 6,100rpm torque: 230 @ 4,800rpm transaxle: Electronic 4-speed automatic overdrive with overdrive lockout Just for sh@ts and giggles, does anyone know the CID for the SHO v8? Thanx. - Karl |

Also, what about the Lincoln Continental and Mercury Sable transaxle? Could either one handle the 5.0L v8?
Here are the specs: Lincoln Continental Engine: 275hp, 4.6L 32V InTech v8 Transaxle: Automatic Electronic Overdrive Mercury Sable Engine: 3.0L Vulcan 2V (or 4V) 6-Cylinder Transaxle: Electronic 4-speed automatic overdrive Thanx. - Karl |
