2.3l garbage?
Hello, this is my first time on this site and I was wondering a few things. I recently was given a 1986 2.3l and it is slow! All of my friends have Honda's and Volkswagons and I can't even compete with my car. Is there anything I can do that will put me in to there league. I don't have a ton of oney because I am a student but I want a faster car! What can I do?

why compete when you can eat.find a donor(trashed 5.0)get this and you can eat rice everyday.do yourself a favor get the v8.they are cheap to mod and work on.anywayz id rather have the slowest gremlin(or pinto) than the fastest datsun

You could add headers and a dual exhaust....contact www.racerwalsh.com (headers) and www.mustangunlimited (dual exhaust)with the dual....you would buy a dual for a 86 SVO...the "Y" pipe would need to be adapted, but once done it would add about 10 horses and the headers should add around 15-20 horses.Other items would be rear end and cam work....but it can get $$$$. But with the above you'll still be slower than the hondas. The only way to beat them would be to go with a beat up 5.0 and move engine, computer, tranny and rear axle. The other options would be to get a 2.3 turbo from a 86 SVO and move everything over like above or get a 91-93 2.3...it came with 115 horses compared to the 88 yours has...the only thing you would have to move is the computer.
Hope this helps |

one option is to get a turbo for your car. turbo tech toys has a kit for 2.3 mustang and rangers its a little expensive but if you dont know anythig about turbos it gives you a complete solution that will work. it comes with a turbo, tube header, custom engine chip, custom EGR pipe, custom turbo exaust outlet pipe (which joins with the stock exaust), all necessary plumbing (air intake, oil, and water), all the bolts you need, and a turbo boost gauge. the cost is $1695 delivered, the site is www.smartworx.com/turbotektoys

Just get a 2.3L turbo from one of the following
84-86 Thunderbird 2.3T 87-88 T-bird 2.3T (the best) 85-86 Mustang SVO 2.3T They bolt right in and you can use all of the n/a 2.3's accessories on the turbo motor. I bought a 2.3T for $500 and I got everything needed to make it run. check out this site www.turboford.org Brad. 88lx 2.3T |
