new engine cost
how much should a new engine (V6) cost in comparison to a reconstructed engine? why would anyone want a reconstructed engine? and if they put a reconstructed engine in and tell you that it's NEW how would you feel?

A brand new Ford never been used crate engine will usually cost 3,000+ dollars since it's an original build.
A remanufactured 3.8L (fully rebuilt to ford specifications) by ford is usually around the 2,000 dollar range. You can buy aftermarket rebuilt/remanufactured engines anywhere from $800-2,000 depending on who puts it together, it's even more if performance modifications have been made. It's VERY rare to actually buy a brand new engine since they're so expensive and usually hard to find, if i were to get a remanufactured engine rebuilt by ford i would be confident in the craftsmanship and machining of the engine and it should last 150,000+ miles. The life of the engine is directly related to the machining quality, machined tolerances and parts quality as well as installation procedure and maintainance. If i were to ever get an engine replaced by someone i'd ask them where they're getting the engine from, what my options are for different rebuilt units. If they gave me an engine different than the one i asked for i would be fairly mad.
