I'm in the same boat. Check out the thread titled "Getting ready to Upgrade" for almost all the advice you need.
For a quick answer to your question steeda.com has an underdrive pulley/balancer that adds 8-10 horses and between it and the belt, you're only looking at dropping about $225. Also, on some of the 2000's, Ford tappers the exhaust pipe down before it enters the muffler, consider replacing the stock muffler with something like a 2 chamber flowmaster and when you do, keep the pipe constant all the way through. Lastly, C&L sells a cold air kit for about $250 that boasts 8-15 horses. Check out C&L's website here. |

I have been told that removing the air silencer for a v-6 does nothing and if it does do anything it cause loss of HP. Just what I heard. Give it a try and find out for yourself/.

I honestly don't see the benefit of removing the Air Silencer. I have two friends, one with a '97 V6 and a '01 V6, and both removed theirs' and saw no difference what-so-ever. From what I've been told about the Air Silencer is if it's removed it allows a lot more *HOT* air from the engine, while supposely the Silencer allows a small amount of only cold air in.
What I recommend? If you do remove it make sure you have a cold air induction system (which you can save money and build yourself) and a K&N air filter. Mustangworld.com has a very good article on how to build your own Cold Air Iduction system. The link is http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/coldair.htm Hope that helps a little, Michelle, loving owner of a '99 V6. |

I went out tonite and bought the parts for the coldair. I followed the directions and the measurements do not work for a 94-95 v-6 mustang. It may work for a different year. The 4" is way to big. Anyone get it to work tell me what is up.
