How to do a 2.3 to 2.3T swap?
Okay, i have been thinking of swaping out my 2.3 in my 1990 LX in favor of a 2.3T. If any one knows what is involved in this please tell me. I have already read a bunch of posts about it and I have a basic idea of what to do. Any specific information about the swap is appriciated especially about wiring, trans, and what car to get a donor engine for my car would be best. I want to go fast. Thanks in advance.

I am probably the fella you would want to talk to, I have done this swap in to my 88lx.
First get a suitable engine: 200hp 85-86 Mustang SVO/Merkur XR4TI intercooled 87-88 T-bird intercooled Or (lower hp 145-175, can be raised however) 84-86 T-bird non-intercooled The swap is straight forward, it bolts in just like your n/a 2.3L, everything is the same. However if u have a stick car and you find and auto 2.3T you will need to swap fly-wheels and vice versa. Get the whole wiring harness, but in reality you should only need to swap a few wires into your already exsisting wiring harness. Thats about it. You might want to get a turbo rear as well since yours right now isn't trac-lok and has fuel economy gears. The turbo rears are trac-lock and have 3.73 gearing (for the autos, not sure about stick cars). I strongly suggest you visit this site and get on the message board, this is where all of the 2.3T people hang out. brad. ------------------ Brad 88lx 2.3T soon to have 350hp www.turboford.org |

Well the swap cost me $550, I got the computer/w. harness, complete engine, rear-end. But I was lucky. Most 2.3L turbo engines cost anywhere from $300-$600 but it all depends on what shape the engine is in. I think u can get a rebuilt engine for around $800. The deals are out there u just have to look 'hard' for them.

What kind of setup are you running to get 350hp out of a 140T? Would you be interested in racing some similar hp cars for $$$? Let me know cause it's sounds like an interesting setup to me.
