Default 8 cylinder into a 6 cylinder engine bay....?

hi everyone, i am new here, and i dont have a Mustang, i have a Mitsubishi Eclipse GST with not much done to it.....i have around 250 horsepower, and to give u an idea of its speed, in the quarter mile i can beat a stock 5.0 by like 2 cars......14.2@ 103mph

but the reason im here is becuase my friend has a 6 cylinder mustang, and is looking to buy an 8 cylinder for it, probably the 94 cobra engine......my question is, how much work is involved in doing this? He has a a 1994. Feel free to ask me any questions about what we plan to do, but i am not sure of anything yet.....

It's the same car, so it will physically fit no problem.

I think that it is a lot of work. You'd be better off to start with a 94GT. You get the 8.8 rear axles, wide tires, harnes, ignition and everything. All you would have to do is buy heads, intake, cam, and fuel system.

well, see the thing is, is that he bought his car from his friend for 3 grand......and a GT would cost, what? 8k or so? So if it is too much work to put in the engine, what should he do to make it ALOT faster? He was thinking about a supercharger.....

I would pass on buying a 94 Cobra engine.

Have you friend call up DSS, Coast High Perf, Keith Craft, etc. and get a nice little stroker motor (331 or 347) long block. He'll get a very stout motor that is ready to drop in the engine bay.

Is it a 5 speed?

Your buddy needs to seriously think about where he wants to go with the car, how much he loves it, and how long he plans to keep it. Also a considertation is how mechanically skilled he is. A v8 will go in there nice and easy, however, you will need to swap everything over from a v8, and that is a LOT of work.

That 6 is a crappy engine, they have head gasket problems at 100k( gauranteed failure-I know from experience) However if he is persistent upon keeping it, send him over to 3.8mustang.com. That message board has a lot of die hard 6 banger mustang folk who can tell you what to do.

FYI a brand new mustang is rated 14.4 in the quarter mile, and a "notchback" mustang with a 5 speed from 87-93 stock is known to go low 14's because they weigh so little. Don't get too much of an ego till you race one of these....good luck

The v8 engine that was offered for 1994 was the 5.0 engine. If he is to do the swap, then putting in a 5.0 out of a 94 would be the best thing. Honestly, though, unless he is really skilled with cars, and die hard with the racing scene, it honestly is worth it to ditch the 94 6 cylinder and buy one already with a v8.

If he wants to go fast, cheap, tell him to buy an 86-93 Fox bodied mustang 5.0 for a second car. You can often get one under 2 grand now that is running 14's stock (lx 5.0's)

IT is not hard on a 1994 to go from a 3.8 to a 5.0. You need a new wireharness, new clutch, new fan clutch, dual exhasut and that is about it. I have the complete guide to what you need for the swap of you need it.
