Help with a 2.3L
Hey guys its been a while but I am now into a new project car and I need some help. I just bought a 1979 Mustang 2.3L 4 Cyl. with a European 4 speed. Now I am looking to get a little bit of kick out of my pony so I need suggestions on further performance upgrades. What I have so far is forged Alum. pistons, a performance cam, Alum.header and I re worked the gearing in the tranny a little. No wI am not sure if it is possible but I want to upgrade the intake end of things. I know that NOS is available but I want something that will boost the power consistently instead of in spurts. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,
I have the solution for you. If I were you I would get a turbo setup for your car. I have a 1984 turbo gt mustang that came with factory turbo. Its a turbo 4cylinder. I happen to have another turbo mounted on the exhaust manifold, the intake throttle body, and the fuel rail setup with fuel injectors. That would be the closest thing to a bolt on setup you would need. If your interested in the turbo let me know. I would sell all three for $400. Let me know via email: rccrsmike@excite.com Philip |

What is the 4speed? I would swap for the 5speed T5 from thr SVO/ 2.3L turbo 'stang. Parts are avail. and it would be cool!

You can swap a T5 out of a later model, but i think you'd need a new bellhousing and driveshaft. Lukily, those are highly available. You'd probably also need to get all the clutch linkage stuff like the clutch fork, clutch cable and adjustable quadrant. You can buy some heavy duty stuff from many companies and unlike your current clutch, it's self adjusting.

Well guys I already have the tranny done as for as cutomizing goes and as for the turbo suggestion, It is a completely different set up then a stock 2.3. The chambers and cam and lifters are all different and would need total upgradingAnd if I am going to go that far than I want to look into other mods. Right now though I am wondering if nyone has ever heard of a supercharger for the 2.3?

I think that your best bet would be to upgrade with turbo. The Thunderbird Turbo Coupes have basically the same 2.3L that mustangs have(with some work done to them). If you have added the parts you were talking about, then your motor should be able to handle the pressure from the turbo. This will give you enough boost to be satisfied, I think. You could also mess with the psi of those turbos and push it a little further.

If you go to www.racerwalsh.com and order their catalog, you'll see more 2.3L parts than you'd know what to do with. There's 2/4 barrel, weber carbed intake manifolds, titanium valves, cams, etc.
A guy on a Fairmont/Zephyr board i used to go to (F/Z enthusiasts is what it was called) had a guy with a 2.3L NA that made about 180 hp (although it revved really high). ------------------ Mustang Parts Specialties ripped me off, don't buy from them.
