Gears. Get you some 3.73's or 4.10's, you'll feel the difference immediately.

Having had a high 14 2.3 91 Ranger I would say gears but that is more than $120 if the 87 is mass air then go to a junk yard and get a mass air meter off a v-6 thunderbird put your hot wire in it and wala you have a much bigger meter. when I did mine I had to make a custom intake hose and get a conical k&n which clamps straight to the new meter if you route your new intake hose you can put the filter in the fender and get some cool fresh air at the same time. that will just about burn up $120 once you buy the meter, k&n and tubing.

Well that's why I suggested gears. They can be had for around $100, and anyway the '87's were speed density, not mass air. You'd have to convert the whole thing over to mass air and I'm not sure exactly how you do that or how much it costs.

Not trying to start a fight but even if you get the gears for $100 who is going to install them for $20? Since the 87 is speed density I would recommend the header as well.

I agree with Shaggy, there's no way to do gears for $120.
I work at a driveline shop, and gears are more than $120, then there's installation. We charge $195 for gear swap/setup & that's if the customer supplies gears, install kit, and bearings, if needed. I'd question a $100 gear set, and would not be comfortable with the installer if it's going to be that inexpensive ($120 total). |
