Removing the silencer
Can anyone tell me where I can find a manual (Chilton, Clymer, whatever) for my 2000 V-6? I want to remove the silencer, but I can't find any manuals anywhere that show its exact location and how to safely remove it. I've heard that this is an easy way to gain power without being detected by the "warranty police." I have tracked down a K&N filter, so when that arrives I'd like to do it all at once.
I've been told the K&N filter is good for about 5 - 7 horsepower, but I haven't heard what the gain would be by removing the silencer. Any ideas? Any input on all of this will be greatly appreciated. Pastor Robert |

When you go to put you K&N in you have to take out the one bolt that holds the air box in place. Next undo the clamp and wiggle out the air box. After you get it out you will see a big rubber cone on the end that sticks into the fender. Just pull it off the box and thats it!

Thanks for the info 93CobraR!!! I think I got it right. If you look down between the inner fender and airbox, you can see the end of the K & N filter. Does this sound correct? By chance do you know what the horsepower gain will be with this setup? I've heard everything from none to 8. Also, do you know if this will help the fuel economy?
Thanks again for everything!!! Pastor Robert |

I don't know what the HP gain would be on the 2000 V-6 engine, but on a 5.0, dyno tests have shown a 4 HP gain from removing the silencer and a 1 HP gain from the K&N filter (over the stock filter). Total: 5 HP. Not bad! I would guess you would get soming close to that number on your V-6.

Thanks for the input RoadWarrior. I received an e-mail from a K&N rep, and he claimed that I would get close to 8 more horsepower. Well, I think his numbers are off. The car does "seem" to run better, but the horsepower increase isn't that dramatic. I believe I will notice a greater increase when I change the exhaust.
