Unhappy Looking for some help...

OK, so this morning I go to start my car ( 1999 V6) and it won't start. The radio and lights work though, so I'm assuming it's not the battery, and there is dead silence when I try to turn it over, so I'm assuming it's not the starter. For the last few months I haven't been able to start the car when it is in park, because I can't shift it into drive because the shifter will not move, so I've had to put the car in neutral in order to start the car and shift it in drive. Now when I go to move the shifter it is WAY easy to move. I'm no car guru and any help would be appreciated.. thank you

Update...figured out it's the shift cable by default..thanks for reading
