Post just bought a new rear end and have question

i bought a new rear end from a friend, and not that i dont trust him but i want to make sure i got what i paid for. I know it has 373 gears in it, just because of the torque difference, but im going to mark the drive shaft and the tire and turn it to make sure, now the rear end is also suppossed to have an Auburn Posi unit in it. Is there any way for sure to tell without crackin the rear end open???

Is this just a center section, or do you have it installed? If it's not installed, count the teeth on the ring and pinion. Ring gear teeth/ pinion teeth = ratio. If it's already installed, jack up one side of the rear, leaving the other on the ground with trhe car in neutral. Try to turn the raised wheel by hand. If you can't, then you have a limited slip if it's a Traction-Lock. I think an Auburn will behave the same way. Currie TSD's don't do this. They only hook up under torque/stress and won't lock otherwise. Test the drive shaft/wheel ratios to find the ratio if it's installed.

I have a uniqe answer to find out if you have a locker:
1. Obtain a boot, or park your car somewhere so that it gets booted. If using latter method, skip to step 3.
2. Place boot on car.
3. Turn on car.
4. Rev car to peak torque point.
5. Drop clutch.
6. Check for broken half-shaft on side of boot, if broken half shaft found, thou has a locker.
