Starter hitting flywheel
1987 2.3 mustang
Starter is hitting the flywheel, I've tried 2 different starters. Could the flywheel be on backwords(or is that possible)??? I just put a new engine in and it did'nt have this problem before. It hits without the starter being engaged. Any ideals? Thanks, Orion ------------------ 2.3 87' mustang. Oil burning, pistin busting, smoke belching, work on everyday piece of junk. |
Well, before you go killing your car (your signature shows signs of despair and anger), yes it is possible that the flywheel is on backwards (if it's automatic). There may also be a spacer between the crankshaft and flywheel that could be missing. Or, did you remember to put the spacer and inspection plate(the plate between the engine and trans) back on when you put the engine back in?
Good luck, and be patient. ------------------ Jeremy B. "Unique" 80 Hatchback |
Well, I don't know what the problem was, but I put a washer on each bolt to space the starter out a little bit. No more problem with that.
Thanks for the input, Orion ------------------ 2.3 87' mustang. Oil burning, pistin busting, smoke belching, work on everyday piece of junk. |
