Question Too good to be true?

I will be test driving a 01 2-dr coupe today. He is asking far below list price ($8900). What am I missing? I have owned 2 previous small ponies (79 & 85), and am unfamiliar with the "new". It appears to be in excellent condition, V6, 12000 miles, premium...I have spent some time looking into it, but am wondering if anyone knows of anything specific I should be looking for. Too good to be true? Thank you!

I would check out www.kbb.com and see what it's tell you. To me, it sounds pretty low but the person may just want to get rid of it. Find out why they are selling the car (if it's not from a dealer).

Thank you, I had already checked kbb (14,855) out for the list, but I went back and looked into warranties, problems, etc. I took her out for a drive, not nearly the giddy-up I was hoping for (3.8). It had been rolled last year, but I will look into how extensive the damage had been. It may balance out and hopefully we can talk again about adding some power or getting back to the original 64-66's. I appreciate the response. Stacey

IMO: if the car has been rolled in an accident, then I wouldn't buy it. There is a good chance that the chasis is bent. Once you bend metal, it's nearly impossiable to get it exactly back to the way it was before. That's probably why it's so cheap, because of the history of the car. If you buy it, you will hear lots of squeaks (more then normal)

Should I even take the time/$$ to have someone look at it closley? He told me only the driver door and fender had been replaced, but I am having a hard time believing that--if that were true, would the entire car be repainted? Did it originally have a plastic bumper? How would it sell for parts? I was really hoping that someone was going to tell me I got really lucky

if it was rolled over, garunteed the roof was damaged!!! The entire car won't need painted if just the door and fende was replaced... if you buy it for parts, you won't get the 8K out of it. Not from a V6. Yes, all Mustangs come with "plastic" bumpers. They are made out of polyurethane. If you still want to buy the car, then I would do at least one of these two things... get a carfax report and have a professional mechanic (that you trust) look at it.

Thanks again. I did the carfax report...not good, and there really isn't anyone around that I trust with this. I let it go, working on one with a dealer today that was highly recommended. I will know in about 3 hours. Thanks for your help.
