			 Well Ive heard this strange noise coming out of my passanger side headder. Well I took it on Saturday to a muffler shop and he told me the bolts that connect the headder to the catback are lose.  He dint have time to fix it but told me to bring it back and he recomended me not to drive it. Well I was driving saturday night and  sudenly the  SERVICE ENGINE SOON  light came on and since then it asnt turned off.  well my question is can it be that were the bolts are lose and exaust is coming out , can that be the reason for the light to turn on??

			 Yeah, I'd say that's the reason for the light. I think you'll be ok when they fix the header. The computer is not reading as much airflow as it should be. 
		
	
		
		
		
		
		
		
			Tell the guy to use locking bolts, like Stage 8's, so it will be a final fix.

			 go back to whoever put on your "true duals" and tell them to fix it. Im sure they just didnt tighten it back up enough. 
		
	
		
		
		
		
		
		
			By the way, the header does not bolt to the cat-back, if your exhaust guy says so, then i's suggest getting another exhaust guy. Also, next time you have technical question, you'll probably have more help in one of the tech forums and not the lounge. hope this helps

			 The check engine light is probably from either a lean condition or improper egr valve operation, both being caused by your exhaust leak.  Just tighten up the two bolts and you are set!

	     the  crack is at the bottom of the headder .                  Do   any of you know    how much is it to get it fixed?  its just the passanger side one.  We were checking it today because the noise coming out of it is horrible now.. |

			I live in SC but I checked on the laws in NC and only certian Counties have emissions. There is about 10 counties in NC that will check weather or not you have cats or not. In south carolina they do not check even though they are illegal. I have had an off road h-pipe for a long time and they do not check. If you are in a place that does check than you can buy a h-pipe with cats and take about 30 mins before you go to get it tested and swap out the two get it tested pass and than swap it back and be ok.

			 I have a cracked exhaust manifold, and once my manifold was loose at the pipe before the 1st cat.  It has always been loose but the check engine light never came on.  But during the last week I took 1 of the 2 studs out to get at my 02 sensor on the bottom of my exhaust manifold.... well I forgot to put it back in and my check engine light stayed on after the car had been run 5 mins then stayed on for about 15 mins and then shut off for a few mins and you get the point....  So it is the loose pipe.  Also I decided to pull the codes while it was like this and I got a few warnings ... lean air/fuel mixture and EGR valve not functioning properly.  I have quite alot of kilometers over 330, 000 kms so I decided to change my O2 sensor because over time they begin to function slower and not even trip a trouble code.  Also don't waste your money on crack sealers because they do not work moree than 2 - 3 days I have tried 5 different ones including steely, hightemp steel, exhaust manifold repair etc...  And you cant weld the damn things either unless you can get someone who knows how to relieve stress on the crack, install a screw, and then weld er back up... but I won't do it because I have heard that it does not last very long and that it is very difficult to do without cracking the cast iron manifolds even further.

			 You asked what causes header bolts to loosen. Vibration has something to do with it but mostly metal expansion and contraction. Headers have a fairly large temperature fluctuation becuase they release alot of heat (whereas cast iron manifolds tend to retain heat better) so the heating and cooling of headers causes cracks in the headers and bolts to loosen.
