Default Vortech V2 SQ ??!!

I am starting to think that after dual exhaust you just have to break out the Visa and go for one of these. It would be cheaper than getting the new GT I drove a couple of weeks ago. Claims HP in the upper 200's. And I have seen a dyno test site that seems to bear this out on 2000 plus 3.8's with few if any other mods.

Anybody got any experience with these Superchargers? Looks to be about a $3000 bolt on. It would be cool to have something like this in a basically otherwise stock 3.8. I don't really see any other way to get this kind of improvement.

Comments?

I agree with adding a SC. One guy is pushing 450 HP with a V6 supercharged. He has a lot of other mods but it shows where you can go. MM&FF has done quite a few SC V6s. I will dig some up and give you the year mods and what charger and amount of HP gained.

If you put on a supercharger you will void the car's warranty so you may want to pass on that for awhile unless you don't mind paying for repairs out of your pocket.

You are right but I only got about 24K left on the 3yr 36,000 warranty and at the rate I'm going i got to start thinking about it now.
Thanks for looking into this Godstang. I read various accounts of SC add ons and I got a couple of questions

some say you need new higher pressure fuel injectors some don't mention it. Are the stock injectors ok?

Some say it will put a lot of pressure on stock pistons and heads and you need to replace them at same time. some say it is bolt on mod. Wonder who's right

Seems like you would want to make sure the exhaust upgrade was consistent with a later SC mod. I have read discouraging words about x pipes for example in posts about SC mod

Seems like the SC has to be prepared for with other base mods to be on a sound platform when it is added. This of course runs the price up or limits the life of the engine after the SC.

Any opinions appreciated. Hey it sure would take a 3.8 to a new level. I'm getting excited. I didn't buy the 3.8 I got for me but I ended up with it and I really want more performance. I like the car a lot otherwise but it ain't no V8.

Depending on what kit you buy (Vortech or procharger) some come with the upgraded fuel injectors. It all depends on how much boost as far as how much the heads and pistions will withstand. If you stay lite on the psi you should be fine. You get out of hand you blow stuff up.

Thanks, I went over to the power adder board and read all their posts. They were talking about V8's but I got the general idea that if I stay below 9 psi Things should be ok maybe even lower like 6 psi. Seems like 9 is a magic number that generates a lot of extra effort as you approach it and certainly as you push on beyond. At least for V8's.
I can drop in at our local engine place which for a small town is well recognized and see what they say. I had an engine rebuilt there a few years ago and was very impressed. It took a while but they took it down to the basics and then invited me back in to go over all the damage top to bottom and tell me piece by piece what they recommended. Of course that is good marketing as they upgraded several items I had not anticipated but they don't just do "half blocks" or whatever and just throw it back at you. When they gave it back they made me sign a paper that I would change the oil. It was like it was one of their kids.
They build very expensive race engines and were working on a $100,000 dollar rebuild of a 1956 Chevy for a well to do person. Head Coach at Texas A&M at the time.
Just hope I can afford their dynos and all. But I just don't see any other way to turn this car into a GT. Thanks again
