Default Need a NEW CLUTCH-WHAT KIND

I'm putting in a clutch this weekend, my car barely moves now. I don't want to spend much more than $200, what would probably be the best to get for the money? I'd rather a stiffer pedal, but whatever. It's for a T-5 trans.

Also, my trans grinds a little into 2nd sometimes, almost always when I get on it, plus it whines really bad ALL THE TIME. Who wants to guess how long it'll take to brake the trans after I put in a new clutch? (I'm guessing soon)

Sounds like you may have a bent fork in you trans. A new clutch shouldn't change the life expectancy of that t-5 if thats the case. Since you have to drop it to get at the cluch good, why not take a look at the forks? It could save you a total rebuild.

I'm not blaming the trans problems on my clutch, I'm just saying a new clutch that'll grab hard won't help a worn transmission.
The trans has over 100k on it, the synchros in 2nd are worn and it grind sometimes depending on how fast/hard I try to shift, plus it whines pretty bad which I'm guessing would be the bearings inside are worn. The throwout bearing is also trashed, it used to make that chirping noise last year, then a grinding sound. Now it makes a quit grind noise. Either way, the clutch started to go, my friend clutched the piss out of it afterwards cause he can't drive stick which made it worse. Then I raced my friend which spun the clutch the whole time, and now it slips all day. I just want to throw a clutch in it for the time being, then I'll throw a trans in it when the current one breaks. I was checking out the motorsports/ram/centerforce clutches, I want one with a fairly stiff pedal, so I'm not sure if I want to mess with the king cobra clutch unless it's really worth it.

Default shouldn't this be in tech???

$200 bucks is a tight budget for a new clutch... I was thinking Centerforce D/F, but if you're trying to squeak by then I would imagine anything'd do... maybe just a stock replacement? And you should have the flywheel turned to allow proper seating of the clutch disc... that decision, of course, is entirely up to you.

BTW, I'd inspect the internals of your T5 while it's out, that is, unless you want to get back under there real soon to tear it all apart again... if you don't know what you're looking at then take it to the local repair shop to have someone go over it... they really aren't hard at all to rebuild, as I've done several and don't even own a manual... just pay attention to detail and lay everything out in order as you take it apart. Got some snap ring pliers and some punches? Then you'd better get started!

I checked out jeg's, I narrowed it down to 3:

Ford Racing 10.5 clutch kit-$160.99
Ford Racing King Cobra Clutch Kit-$201.99
Hays Street Performance Clutch Kit-$238.00

I'll probably go with the king cobra. Whats the deal with the regular Ford Racing 10.5" clutch, are they a stock replacement? I'm assuming the King Cobra has more holding power.

ULTRAFLOW, do the master rebuild kit come with pretty much everything I'll need? Will I need to have a machine shop press on/off anything(bearings/races/etc.) or can everything be done with regular tools?

The master rebuild kits comes with just about everything you need (if your shifting fork is bent, that would be separate... the kit does come with new nylon 'tabs' that attach to the fork)

With some basic tools you can disassemble/reassemble the tranny no prob... no press needed to do a rebuild.
