seatbelts in a 68

Hi all,
I have a 1968 coupe, i understand that this model had two seperate seat belts, the lap and the shoulder. My 'stang only had the lap belts when i got her, and i have been unable to find any , anywhere.
Every '68 i have seen since is missing its shoulder belts too. Any idea where i can get some? or why they were all taken out?
thanks

My '68 convert only came with lap belts. I haven't seen a stock one with the shoulder belts. This might be a GT thing.

They were probably taken out when the headliner was replaced. That's when I took mine out. Plus, you would have two buckle ends. They were on the roof with a clip to hold them there.

To find them........well I would look in Hemmings and check out some of the Mustang sites that specialize in "original" parts, NOS.

Hi!
Thanks, i do have the two belts on the floor, i only have a single bolt on each side though, where the shoulder belts once were i guess. But isn't there supposed to be a much bigger holder for them? a retainer of some sort so they don't flop around?

I have seen them intact on a 69 before. The ones on my 72 are missing as well. I suspect somepeople took them off for a number of reasons. The belts were stored along the headliner and had no retractors so you can imagine them getting in the way real easy and people getting rid of them.

Not sure where you can find original shoulder belts. But, to install more modern 3-point belts go to http://home.pacifier.com/~dnstoys/seatbelt.htm. There, you'll find detailed, illustrated instructions to do it along with a source, price, and phone # for the belts. According to the site, all late 68's and newer models came with factory mounting points for the shoulder belts. However, it was an option - probably only included on the GTs. The hidden, existing upper pivot mount is hidden under the headliner right behind the coat-hook. Hope this helps.

hey,
i have a 1966 coupe with factory shoulder belts and i would suggest not getting them! the are a pain to put on, the get in the way, and plus the will tear holes in your head liner, do not get them!
