Video Card experts:I I need some input
Well I just tried to install a GeForce2 video card in my Compaq 300mhz computer and in the process found out it won't fit into any slots that I have.
The way it's set-up is,if I installed this video card, then I wouldn't have any phone jacks on the back of my computer so that gave me a clue right there that it was the wrong video card. So my question is,what video card will work? ------------------ Paxton Blown 87GT [This message has been edited by Mustanguy (edited 01-21-2001).] |
2 things. Your system probably does not support AGP 4X... check it out I may be wrong.
It did not fit? You may have bought an AGP card, and only have PCI slots on your system. Do you know if your current videocard is onboard or a single card? If on onboard make sure you can disable it. You maybe stuck using a PCI TNT2 or PCI VOODOO3 for gaming cards. That's what Compaq's 'll do for ya. Welp,I just looked at my computer manual and found out that it's equipped with a PCI slot and a PCI/ISA combination slot.
So I basically bought the wrong video card http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...board/wink.gif So I'll be lookin for a PCI Video card the way it looks... |
Sucks for you, ... hope you can return it. Blame the sales dude, cuz some stores don't take back opened boxes.
Yah, and look for something that is AGP 2x MAXIMUM (Even if you don't have AGP slots, this sorta dictates the speed of your system's video) Like I said, NVIDIA TNT2 or VOODOO 3. ------------------ Lizard King - 00GT http://www.mustangworks.com/mustangs...1393-slot3.jpg >> 13.698 @ 101.2MPH - BONE STOCK, yes BONE(even air filter) stock. Hi,
I better add my input so you don't go and make any more mistakes. Firstly, I was new to 3D cards and ended up buying a Creative Labs TNT2 M64 nVidia card. Now this car is ok for basic gaming, but I'll let you know now: STAY AWAY FROM M64 models. These aren't good cards, and have some problems. At most, I can play about an hr of gaming with this card before my whole computer freezes up. It might be lack of ventilation or power to the video card (I added a fan to the car but it didn't help). I tried several drivers and it still hangs after an hr of so.. Also, AGP slots look like PCI slots, except they're a bit smaller (and in some cases, different coloured then PCI slots). The GeForce cards are really nice, and if you're gonna keep this one, look into a good motherboard (Abit and Asus are good brands). Bye! ------------------ Gautam N.
