Most Porfitable Mustang Ever?

The post talking about the opinions of the body style of mustangs got me thinking.

What year (or years) were the most profitable for Ford and the Mustang (money making only)?

What year did they sell the most cars?

I imagine that the late model Fox must have been profitable, as all the tooling was paid for and I'm sure they sold a lot of cars. As for as the year they sold the most cars, the 60's? I don't know.

PS I know I spelled profitable wrong in the title, we need a spell check.

I'm sure these numbers are readily available on some website, but I would have to agree that the late-80's early-'90's Fox-bodied Mustangs had to be a big money maker for Ford, due to the long stretch between retooling.

I paid $13,600. for my fairly loaded LX 5.0 in 1990 and that was still considered a steal back then. Best investment I ever made and I still have it as my daily driver (104k).
