Do you have the stock heads on there? Are they ported or have they had any work done to them?

If the heads are stock, I think they were not quite as good as the E7 stock units, although they were still better than the 1986's. If that is the case, they'll be severely limiting your combo. The E303 and the performer rpm are both going to raise your powerband. With stock '85 heads, maybe mid-high 13's? It depends on how good you hook.

If you don't have any traction mods and you were spinning badly before the 3.55's and added power, you're gonna spin even worse now. Of couse adding traction to the 7.5" rear end isn't exactly the safest idea either. If you think you are going to get good traction, I'd at least think about a girdle for that rear.

Thanks a lot unit 5302, yea they are stock heads, and i was thinking about some nitto drag radials instead of slicks.... but if i blow out my rear end then i will have a 8.8 on order to put in...

Whatever you do, DO NOT run slicks on that setup.

The 7.5" would likely not take it, but even more so the stock T-5 in the 1985 GT's was very weak. Rated at only 260lb/ft of torque it featured a needle bearing setup on the input shaft along with the weaker 3.35:1 1st gear ratio. Later models got stronger 2.95:1 ratios for first, and the lastest got tapered roller bearings on the input shaft.

Launching on slicks I have no doubt you could run a mid 13, but you'd likely take your rear and/or tranny out very quickly.

The drag radials should hook quite nicely and provide you with good launch, without shocking your driveline like slicks would.

thank you very much unit 5302, i will look into my tranny. if worse comes to worse i can just work all summer long to get another tremmic 5-speed.(im only 19 with a limited budget) so thank you on your input, i will take that into consideration.

Unit, didnt later models have the 3.35 1st gear too? mine does i know that much, cuz it's short.

The Z spec has the 2.95. Im pretty sure all stock T5's have the 3.35. Mine does.

I thought they went to the 2.95 earlier than the Z spec.

The T-5 was rated at 280lb/ft 2.95 1st with needle bearings, and 305lb/ft with the 3:35 1st and the tapered roller bearing. The Z spec got it's 330lb/ft rating from having the 2.95:1 gear.
