Which air-compressor and tools?
 

I keep seeing ads in the Sunday paper from Sears for Air compressors and air tools. Was wondering if you guys could give me an idea if this is quality stuff or not.

I have seen Campbell-Hussfield (sp?) at Lowes too and was wondering if this stuff is any better?

All I really am looking to get is a decent sized tank with good psi ratings, a high-torque air-impact drill/wrench, and a low-torque one too. I will probably only use the thing here and there on the Mustang (especially to get my Balancer off!)

So, is Craftsmen any good? Campbell-hussfield? Others? Any pointers?

I bought the sears, 6hp, 30gal tank. it is nice, but whatever you do, do not chinse out on the impact gun. get a high torque rating. I got a sweet deal on the sears, damaged leg off the truck unit, but was looking at the campbell hasufield also. those and the porter cable. the rating at 90psi is what to look for, the highest you can. around 6 @ 90 would be good.

I don't know much about air tools or their ratings, but I know when I was changing the alternator pulley on my mustang we were using an impact wrench. I can't remeber the brand of the first one we had, but it was cheaper and would not loosen the pulley. We switched over and started using a Mac impact wrench. It took the pulley off easily. I know Mac tools can be high, but in this case it was worth it.

Think about it this way, your air tools will last you a long time, maybe for life if you take good car of them. Don't throw away quality for price. Also, get the biggest compressor you can. I got a 7hp quad Campbell, and it works well, I even blew out the sprinkler system with it. Be careful with what you buy, those oilless compressors suck. Also don't get one with an aluminum pump, get a cast iron one. The cast iron is way more durable, and can be rebuilt. A friend of mine had a 60 gallon compressor with an aluminum compressor, and wore it out. He was pretty mad when he couldn't rebuild it.
