What "old" heads will fit on a 302?
In my ? about windsor vs clevland "you" say that cleveland heads will fit a windsor? Is that true?
What heads will fit my car and give some more hp than the stock? Does my heads fit too older 302 and 289 engines? ------------------ -87 GT, K&N, 5-speed, Walker exhaust, no air silencer. timing 75000miles. (This vinter 3,55 and mac 15/8 and H-pipes and a Hurst shifter) 14,61 and 95,59mph |
289, 302, and 351w heads are interchangeable, the 351c is different i believe

I believe 2 barrel clevland heads will fit a 302. I think the power gain is worth the purchase. I've never done it but I'm almost positive they fit. There are some other heads that are a good reploacement but I can't remember, I think 69 351 heads are a good replacement. I wish I could remember everything http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/frown.gif

That is the basic premise behind the 302 Boss. The larger combustion chambers require specific pistons, and the intake was also specific. Makes for a fairly expensive project in comparison, and the power is in the range that made ford go 4 bolt with the Boss block. Very few things are impossible with some creative engineering, and a deep wallet.

Cleveland heads can work with the right intake, headers, and other stuff, but I think you are better off buying aluminum windsor heads.

On a strict budget, get some 69-74 351W heads and do some port work.

Cleveland heads need a lot of modifications. 351W heads bolt right on, but you will need special washers or head bolts. 302 uses 7/16 and 351 has 1/2 holes. 69 & 70 cast are the only ones to use. Porting & polishing the exhaust side is recommended. Unless you get them for free, don't pay a machine shop to compeletely redo an old set, because you'll spend too much. Oh yea, hardend valve seats are highly recommended to burn unleaded gas (machine shop must do this).
