New T-bird

Some may or may not have already seen this car. Kinda ugly if you ask me. And that engine looks very complicated to work on. I thought the 4.6 was bad enough. A 3.9L V8, 32V DOHC 252hp at 6100rpm, 267lb-ft. torque at 4300rpm. All aluminum.

Actually, it's my understanding from a local Ford engineer that the 3.9L is more efficient than the 4.6, and the folks at powertrain development consider it a better engine. Or so they tell me. Makes me wonder if it will wind up in the Mustang, since the next version will be on the same chassis as the T-bird.

Mathematically speaking the 3.9 DOHC is not as effiecent as the 4.6 DOHC

4.6 hits about 67.4HP per Liter
3.9 hits about 64.61

Doesn't the 3.9L use hemispherical or semi hemispherical heads? Course it may be just canted valving for those who have a problem with "semi hemi" being used as a term relating to canted valving.

I thought I heard something about that, if that's true the performance potential of the engine should be very impressive.

Anybody else heard that, or are neurons in my brain arcing across each other?

Maybe the 3.9L DOHC, you are saying, is more effecient than the 4.6 SOHC?

Anyways, I hope it puts out more hp than that if it does go into the GT. But, from what I've read elsewhere, it will not be used in the GT but the GT will be the new S197 chassis.

I also like the new bird - however..... for that kind of $$$$ I could put a very nicely restored 57 bird vert and a well modded 5.0 in my garage - must be my old fashion way of thinking.

It sucks. I was looking for a Vette killed and got a Civic killer, ok ok maybe its faster that a Civic, ok I got a Sorla killer. Not to mention it has the itemidation factor of a VW bug

I think it would be gorgeous with different rims. The aftermarket will make a clone of the roots type blower used on the supercharged version of the Jaguar XK8 and soon there will be 400hp birds flying in the skys.
