When you drive another car....
Sometimes I get frustrated as my stang begins to show its age and I run out of money to fix the little problems. So when I am driving other cars, I enjoy the nice ride and the newness I guess. But I miss the power and once I get back in my car it just feels like I am at home and I realize I could never part with my stang.
On my spring break trip I drove a few different cars, as whoever was the most awake took over driving duties. I like some things about the other cars, but once I got back in my stang it just felt good. Anyone else ever feel this way? |
Yeah it's wierd, becuase when you drive someone else's car you feel like you can drive forever. But in you car you would rather floor it and get where you are going as fast as possible.

I've had my 89 since 91 and I love that car!! I've driven it some long distances and just love it. I drove the cobra to Fla last month and to tell you the true, I'd had rather driven the 89.. like you said, it just feels like home.

Thats the way i felt about my 86 but it was really starting to show it's age rear main seal leak rust dints oilpan leak and eletric problems but now i have my 88 with a 306 and about 200 more horsepower so i think i'll get over it i have no choice and this one i know i'll never part with

I have driven a lot different cars and I must say none of them will never satisfy me the way my Stang does. (hehehe did'nt that sound kinda of dirty =) ) anyways I always feel that when driving other cars they always dissappoint me when I get on em'...alright I need to stop now...sheesh where's my mind? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/eek.gif

Hehe, do you ever find yourself getting ticked off at people that just don't accelerate?
They are so damn slow away from the light. Then you drive another car and realize they really have their foot into it. Hehe, makes me laugh everytime. The 5.0 shifting at 3000rpm is just as quick as most cars running it up real good. |

the mustang does feel great and at home, but there are other cars that feel just as good and some cases better such as a porsche or especially the viper.

Two years ago I purchased my first stang. A '90 lx 5.0 auto. It had 130xxx on it so did a motor and tranny swap to a 306 and t-5. I totalled it back in oct. and just 2 days ago purchased another stang(had do drive an old car my dad used to drive to work-'87 Chrysler 5th avenue) damn that was a big car. I bought a '93 notch and I immeadiatly felt like I was on top of the world. I missed my other car so bad. i totally know what you mean about feeling at home. Since I didnt have my stang I borrowed my moms new Intrepid to go out on the weekends but its just not the same.

Its very odd to think of the power. Cause I can drive perfectly fine withough breaking 2000 rpm, which is very little throttle. When you drive another car, to even keep up with that its at least half throttle, so its funny to think about people who are going slow, but they are really flooring it, but you can hold it at half throttle and keep up.

I've driven a lot of different cars, often as rentals, including a new Cadillac last year.
My wifes car is a '95 Mazda 626 2 liter-4 (auto) which I drive often on errands, etc. When I go from my '90 'Stang to a new car, of course I notice the difference in 'smoothness' and so on, but I also notice the usual lack of power and the loss of feeling that I'm really driving the car, not just steering it down the road. There is something about a tight, even slightly harsh ride, a 5-speed in your right hand, a higher-than average rear axle ratio for quick acceleration and a very noticeable exhaust note to make one appreciate a Mustang 5.0., even over a newer, smoother, quiet car. Can't imagine not having a Mustang V-8 to drive, at least some of the time. My '90 LX never fails to make any drive just a bit more enjoyable. |
I've found my gas mileage increases significantly when I accelerate somewhat briskly in everyday driving. Shifting at 3k under medium throttle nets me about 19-21mpg around town, and I get around 27mpg on the hiway at 75mph. I never run my car below 1500rpm in any gear for extended times. You have to use too much throttle at those kind of rpms for any acceleration, and I think it actually hurts fuel economy from being so far out of the powerband.
