V6 - 351 W or C
Can Any one give me info on this swap, the starter Car is an 84 t roof V6 car and we haven't decided on a 351 W or a 351 C, which would be easer? which would have more power? and any tips or tricks you could recommend?

although I am a huge fan of the 351C, my advice would be to stick the the windsor. Easier, cheaper, more parts available...

I agree, a 351W will be much easier to find parts for, especially aluminum heads.

How about the actual conversion its self, any tips? I will probably go with the 351 w because of ease. I know I will need a new rear end 8.8 (at least) and new suspension, can I get away with using a suspension from an 88GT?
Thankx for any advice |
Hey i am doing the same thing to my v6 mustang (its a red 84 conv.) have you uncovered anything new? Im trying to figure out what i can toss and what i need to keep as far as the engine bay

This link might have some useful 351 info:
http://www.alternativeauto.com/water..._nut_bolt.html The 7.5 rear should be able to take it for a little bit. I'd just run the 84's supension and not bother with upgrading it to an 88's. The '84's springs should give good weight transfer. Also, I think you'll have to get a new hood with a ~4" cowl or cut a hole out in your current one. Or just run with no hood. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif You can get a fiberglass hood with a 4" cowl here for $230 which seems fair. http://www.cincinnaticomposites.com/cowl.htm |
I found an engine, tell me what you think of it (ie// stock hp and tourque)
It comes with the truck 1974 ford f100 with a 351 windsor, it is still running and the truck is in good shape, he wants $500 canadain |
I checked out that web site for the 351w but it didn't help much b/c that is starting (from what I understood) from a bare block, what about if I started with the motor from above a 1974 351w still running..??
Thankx for any help |
351w all the way - it fits in the engine bay a lot better, you dont need a custom exhaust setup, and the parts are everywhere - 351c are harder to install and cost a lot more, plus you are dealing with more weight...
|
351W by all means. Then put a stroker kit in it, and have REAL fun. Easy bolt in, loads of aftermarket parts. Unknowing people will think it's a 5.0. Enjoy!

I agree about the ease of swap and parts, but the weight with the cleveland is worth the troque if you dont mind the extra money the cleveland is one of the most underrated engines out there. My only problem with mine is keeping the hp down to a drivable limit.

How DO you keep the hp down to a drivable limit?
