Firestone dumped Ford. Your title is inaccurate.

Ford suggested tire inflation specs that were too low for the types of tires that they were putting on the SUVs. This is part of what led to the failures. What did they say, 26-28psi when it should have been 36psi? This was to make what is basically a truck feel like a car, but an underinflated tire generates more heat. This is what led to the failures.

Firestone is also to blame for building flawed tires.

You are right. When I posted it this morning it had a different headline and I posted it before reading the article.

The whole jist of the story makes me laugh. Notice what's on the new Ford SUV's? Bridgestone's. What a crock. Now Ford just announced they are going to have to recall about 50,000 new 2002 Explorers for grooves cut into the back tires (Bridgestone's) due to the assembly line not being set up right.

This 2nd tire incident will ruin Ford's SUV sales. Way to go Blue Oval.

Quite frankly the stupidity of Ford to choose Bridgestone is amazing. How long do they really think it'll take before the public realizes Bridgestone is Firestone's parent company?

I don't know where Ford has been going lately, it's obviously time to clean house with their upper level management.

Firestone built crappy tires, but they LET Ford put them on the Explorer, and they didn't say **** until people started dying. Furthermore, Firestone has had problems with their tires dating back years, not only on the Explorer's but on other vehicles, but they told Ford to keep it quiet. Ford was actually attempting to protect dumb people when they suggested the lower psi on the tires. Less turn in on panic manuever's means less Joe Moron rollovers.

Regardless, screwing this new Explorer deal up with gouges in the tread, using Firestone's parent company, quality problems with the Focus (recalls) and issues with the '99 Cobra, ect. ect. ect. has me thinking the Blue Oval is getting pretty frickin lame.

I'm getting tired of defending a bunch of dumbasses who just can't seem to get it right for the life of them.

They dumped Firestone.....for bridgestone....basically the same sh/t tires, but with a different name. I will never EVER buy firestone/bridgestone/dayton tires for my car and this is after working at Firestone balancing all those out of round tires.
