longtube power?
I was just wondering how beneficial longtubes are and what the typical hp incrase is. I have had a whole system with longtubes-catback for a while but havent installed it yet. With my mods an exhaust system should bring a decent increase right? They advertise a lot but I want to know the truth. thanks.

they will kill your low end torque and give you more top end. with your stock intake it might creat a mis match in power band. if you get an intake it would make a larger gain. and be beter matched.

Are you on N20??? or on crack?
Have you ever used longtubes? They DO NOT kill your low end, they actually give you more torque, and also more top end power. I have never seen low end decreases, and I don't think anyone else on here has either. ------------------ Dustin 1993 Cobra #1926 Bassani Full lengths,Bassani short X-pipe, American thunder Cat back, 3.55's. Ya, the nitrous is supposed to go into the engines intake not the drivers.....
Long tubes are the only way to go if you want to make power! Even on a bone stock 302, long tubes are "Not" gonna’ kill low end torque. That a fallacy manufactured by people who want an easy way out to installing long tubes. I’ll say it over and over, again and again, Shorties are a complete waste of money, time and material. There is a natural restriction in all short tube headers at the connection to the H-pipe that you can’t eliminate. No matter how well the pipes scavenge, that built in restriction is gonna’ kill any gains in flow. The Shortie makers forgot to tell us that ‘cause they want you to buy their products. You wanna’ make power on the low end and top end, go with long tube headers and don’t listen to all the hogwash about them killing low end torque... It just ain’t true! Phil |
For real. I'm running BBK long tubes on my '79 Merc, and I can't tell you how *******' FLAT the torque curve feels on that car! Pulls all the way to the max shift points hard, even with my 2.73's. Full lengths aren't that hard to install, either, IMHO. Boohoohoo to those who won't. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...board/wink.gif

Longtubes even on a stock engine, will make a lot more power AND torque. I speak from experience, with shorties and long tubes, the long tubes definitely make power across the range. As long as they aren't mismatched (ie 1 3/4" primaries on a stock head).

Yeah, from personal experience, the longtubes give more torque and hp than most short tube configurations. Perhaps if you lose some low end by installing the longtubes, you'll need to tune the A/F to get it back. Personally, I gained 2.5 mph with longtubes. I know fellow stangers who have gained even more.

Hey 88GT, I think I might have that mismatch problem you were talkin about. That was the only size summit offered so I bought it. If I port match the exh ports will that make up for the difference? The tubing looks fatter than the flange that meets the head. The flange is about the same size as my head ports already but the tubing looks larger. Would the fact that I have a decent cam make up for the larger tubing since it will be making more exhaust than stock? Please let me know.

I have L/T's and a 2 1/2" exhaust system. I gained tons of power over the stock exhaust. You won't regret it.

Sweet! My first two gears are great by my top end lags. Im realy hoping this will help my 3rd gear. I can usaly take most LS1's by a good carlength untill I hit 3rd and my exh chokes me out of the race.

Are you going to put them on before carlsbad? Anyways, I may sell my upper intake as soon as I find a RPM upper, if your interested, Ill let it for for $99, its $300 new.

Sky, I will DEFINITLEY have them on by then. I am installing upr and lwr fact 5 conroll arms, Longtubes, hpipe, flowmaster cat back and an aluminum driveshaft next saturday. Im taking the day off work to do it. If I can scrounge up the money I am going to TRY to get a complete GT40 intake, some drag radials or nittos and a dyno tune before then too. I dont think your upr itake will match my factory lower will it? If it will then I will definitly buy it and port my lower.
