The dream is over...
 
Hi,
Got my car back from Mustang Specialteaz. Cost
me $486CDN after tax for 6.5 hrs of work (roughly
$65/hr). The torque box that was broken severly
was fixed and is very strong now. The passenger
side however, has a problem.

Lloyd (mechanic) showed me weld holes in the floorpan under rear
passenger seat (where passenger upper torquebox
is held). The holes were made when Lloyd tried to weld
the torquebox seams on the weak floorpan (only on that side).

I was advised by Lloyd (even says so on receipt) that
I should refrain from adding any more power, otherwise
the floorpan is bound to ripp out under rear passenger
seat.

After Lloyd ran me through the fixups and what I can't
do, it really crushed my dream of turning this thing into
a twin-turbo 5.0L, 10s or 11s daily driver.
That's it; shows over. :sad:

On the bright side, the car runs really strong; pulls
and runs hard, and if I want it to last, it's gonna
stay this way until I get rid of it. Lloyd did say the
car is very strong as is and should be kept that way if
it is to last.

Next year, I'll have to convince my brother/parents to
sell it for something in better shape.

If he burnt holes in the floorpan make he put in new floor pans for free.

Hi,
He didn't put them there; he said that
the holes came cuz the floorpan was just
weak and the welding just burned through.

I doubt he'd rip me off, seeing he is a
nice guy...

I dunno, I need more then one professional
opinions on whether this car is worth modding
or not for power (at least twin-turbo
running 11s or 10s).

I was reading a MM/FF issue this afternoon and found some stuff that might help you. www.wildridesracecars.com has torque box mounting point reinforcements for about $140 and Laurel Mountain Mustang(Rt 2, box 163, Sunny Drive, Ruffsdale PA 15679)(Fax 724-696-3234)(phone # 724-696-9665) has floor pan reinforcement used on ploice intercepter stangs for $24.95

Hi,
I've seen the WildRides reinforcement, but it's $140US +
shipping+custom+installation is gonna put me
well over $200-$300US which is roughly $300
to $450CDN. I already spent $500CDN on this
weld job and blowing another $500 again is
gonna get me a lot of sh*t from my

Im just going to stop giving this car
horsepower; gonna drive it as it is and
if it breaks, well, I'll see if i can keep
it long enough to salvage the goodies that
are on it (3.55s, FMS 9mm, C&L 73mm MAF,
blackouts, cat-back and anything else I
put on right now). Im sure my car runs
somewhere in low 14s and that is good enough
for me as an introduction to sports cars.

My dream is over, but only on this car. Im
sure I'll find another stang (hopefully a
5.0L) to turn into a big project.

My '66 runs 13.95/100.3 at best and the unibody is totally stock. Sub frame connectors shouldn't cost much to buy and install ($200-300 US). 300 or so horses shouldn't really be too much of a problem for a stock unibody on a classic Stang. I think you should question your mechanic a little on that.
