A little under 3 quarts I believe. Last time I filled mine up it was like 2 and a little bit more.

Are you supposed to change the fluid in the T-5? I read something about changing the fluid every 10,000 miles in the back of a catalog, but I had never heard of it before. If you do have to change it, how? I never saw a drain plug under there.

There are two plugs on the passenger side of the tranny. One is down at the bottom and the other is a few inches up...thats where the fluid level should reach...approx 2 3/4 quarts worth. The plugs are square centered and a 3/8 ratchet fits right in them.

Do you need to fill from the top plug hole with some sort of hand pump? What kind of fluid do you use? Sorry if the questions are dumb, like I said I'd never heard of this before. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/redface.gif

You pull the top plug, then the bottom to drain it, then plug the bottom, and fill the top with a pump thing attached to the bottle. Fill it up to the top hole and plug the top. It is actually automatic fluid, or similar. It's called Mercon I think. Or maybe that's just the brand I use. Can't remember.

phew. I feel better. I went to buy gear fluid for my tranny, and the guy told me it took mercon tranny fluid. I didn't believe him at first, but now that i hear you guys use the same stuff, i feel better.

I thought I heard someone say to use Redline Synthetic in your T5, I was going to go with that when the shop put in my new tranny two years ago, but they talked me out of it. Is synthetic the way to go?

Smokedawg 02-28-2001 02:12 PM

I always felt like it was to much of a pain to fill from underneath of the car. So I just took my shifter out from inside of the car and poured it straight on down..Very easy.

I agree with you SMOKE, but sometimes all of the shifter bolts are a pain in the a$$ to get to due to the floor and center console itself, so it may be easier to go underneath the beast in some cases...
