Looking for some 5-star chrome ponies.

I am wondering if any of you guys have a set of 5-star chrome ponies for sale. It would be great if i could find some tires too. Also will I run into any problems installing them on a 87 GT.

performance wheel sells them new for 799.the cheapest ive seen.why chrome ponies i got the 17 by 9 polished cobra r`s for my 93 gt cvt for 699,and i think it looks phat.they are in mmff.

Will the cobra r's fit on my 87 GT with 4-lug
bolt pattern.

bad93gt 02-28-2001 04:18 PM

yes they will my 93 is 4 lug.its not that i don`t like the chrome ponies cause i do but i just like the cobras better.not to mention they are polished which will last for ever with some occasional elbow grease.unlike chrome once it pit or scratches there is nothing you can do but watch them rust.

there is a big difference between silver powder coating and polished.the silver is paint which can chip and peel .it also has no shine.the polished are bare alluminum polished to shine like chrome.there is no comparison.

so polished is better right....so why do they charge more for chrome and less for polished

Watch Ebay for Wheels. A set of Pony wheels just sold for about $360 + Shipping. Ebay has been a good source for used parts for my mustang. Search under "Mustang 5.0".

Good luck.

I got my wheels from Ebay as well.

99GT 5 spokes. They cost me $500 including shipping to my door with brand new BFG rubber on them.

That is not the average find though, I looked for a few weeks to find that deal, when the bid didn't clear reserve I worked out a price with the seller. It was an AWESOME deal. The set from Ford would have run me $1100, $1700 for the average guy.

The AVERAGE price I've seen chrome ponies on that site is well in excess of $500 for rims only, and rim tire combo in excess of $800.

Hell, I've seen turbines sell for $400. Speaking of my turbines http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...board/wink.gif....

bad93gt how do you maintain the shine on your polished wheels, Any special care needed.

Jaydee 03-02-2001 02:57 PM

Quality chrome plating is an expensive process and requires more labor than a straight polishing job - In order to look good, a wheel basically has to be nicely finished (polished) prior to being chrome plated, as any surface defect is magnified by the chrome plating process. That additional finishing labor plus the fact that the cost of supplies, labor and keeping the EPA happy makes the cost of running any good chrome plating shop in the U.S. expensive proposition.

i mainly keep all tire cleaners or tire dressings off from the rims.i also use a non abrasive polish.if you keep from getting cleaners and dressings from getting on wheels they will look great without polishing for a long time.once they start to fade a little they need to be polished.but im talking a couple summers before they need polishing.
