Difference in 4.6's...

Well Ive ridden in 2 stock 4.6 96-98 mustangs.

Both Auto, Both Convert. Supposedly the slowest. The first one I rode in really impressed me with how quick it felt.

So I ran it on my gtech. WHICH is quite accurate.

And it ripped off a 15.1 with 3 passengers and the top down.

The 2nd one I rode in I didn't gtech, but it was just incredibly slow. They were both test drives from the same dealership. The 2nd one I could have TOASTED in my integra.

Whatsup with that?

Was the 1st one a 98?
Remember that the 98 GTs are 225 hp compared to the 210-215 horses of the 96-97 GTs...
Not much of a difference, but a difference none the less...

My GT ran a 15.3-15.5 bone stock at the track (first time) when I had absolutely NO idea how to launch, so that fits about right with your GTech...

That's the only thing I can think of...

Go drive a 99, it will blow your mind. 14.4 GT conv. with a 5 speed, about 14.8 with an auto. (approxiate numbers)

What about the gear setup? My '98 5 speed vert came with the optional 3.27 gears where 2.73 was the stock gear set. (I think that's the right numbers) And my pony is very fast!! It is... really!
