Cobra clicking?

When I rev the motor I hear a clicking in the glove box area. It clicks when I step on it and clicks again when I step off, what the heck is this... the computer??

Sounds like your gasket between the exhaust manifold and H-pipe blew out. Do you have an aftermarket H-pipe? Mac? My GT did the same noise. It was the cheap fiberglass kind of gasket that came with my Pro-Chamber, cracked in two. It'd be worth checking.

Any particular RPM?

Some people hear the IMRC switching. (3250 while accellerating, 3000 while slowing down). If that's the case, no biggy. Just one of those things.

rbatson 11-01-2000 09:58 AM

Yeah it does click at around 3200 on the way up and at about 3400 on the way down. I wasn't really worried, I was just curious. The IRMC, is that the computer?
T-Bone, thanks for the thought but this car is completely stock (except K&N)and the noise seems to be coming from the inside of the car.

The IMRC is the Intake Manifold Runner Control. Right before the intake ports there is set of port throttles. At low RPMs (<3250) the engine only breaths through one set of intake ports. This increases the intake velocity and makes for better mixing and better low end torque. At higher RPMs (>3250) the throttles are opened and the engine breaths through all 16 intake valves.

Sometimes you can hear them. The solenoid is actually under the intake manifold, but for what ever reason, in the car it sounds like its coming from the glove box.

When I first crank my car, especially when it is cold, I notice a "rattle" coming from under the hood. It sounds like something inside the engine. It only makes the sound when I crank it. What could this be? Could it be the timing chains or the tensioners?

I don't know. Any problems with it? It could just be the cams clacking or the chains. Maybe get some body to start it while you listen under the hood.

King Snake 11-03-2000 01:05 PM

No, I have never had any problems, and it runs great. I guess it's just one of those things...

97snakedriver, check out my post on "electric air pumps woes", you may be able to help me out.

Snakedriver, you mean when all 32 valves open up after the irmc's open.. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...board/wink.gif

I have the clicking also and it annoys the crap out of me. ... but now that my cats are gutted out, i hear my exhaust more than the clicking.

All 16 intake valves is what I meant. But all 32 total. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif
