Oil additives?
I think someone had told me at one time that if I am using synthetics or synthetic blend oils, then it is pointless to put an oil additive like Slick 50 in. Anyone know if this is true? Or even if additives are worth it. I would think they are.

I would never even think of putting anything other than oil in any engine. Slick 50, Duralube is nothing more than a gimick to make bad motors last a little longer.

There's no reason at all you should use an additive in a new engine like that. Synthetic oils offer more then enough protection. If those additives did something, you would see all the racers using some sort of it. They show them using it for advertising purposes, but they really don't. If you still are unsure, I would get a hold of an engine builder, and ask them their opinion.
My friend owns CAM2 oil, and what I'm told, synthetics are the best. You pay enough for syn. oil as it is, why dump more money into an oil change. *FYI- synthetic oils free up 1-3%HP, and the usual 3000 mile oil change can be bumped up to almost 10000 miles. ------------------ 1997 Thunderbird 4.6L: Black w/ grey leather Modified mustang MAC Cold air into ram air, Motorsport 9mm wires, Soon: custom exhaust, chip, built Trans,. yadda yadda yadda Recently totaled (tear): 91 LX 5.0L 5 spd Red w/ black interior 2 chamber flowmasters, Bassani off-road X-pipe, MAC cold air induction, Kirban short throw, Heavy duty 3 core radiator, FMS 3:73's, Timing bump to 14 degrees, SRP billet racing pedals, Kenwood sound system |
I have to agree with the others, you are already running synthetic oils which will do you more good than any of those additives.

Appreciate the help guys.

slick 50 uses teflon a SOLID don't use it! dupont does not recomend using teflon in a engine. if you do use it you are putting tiny pieces of stuff in your engine and it will all end up in your oil filter.
