TIRE SIZE FOR WINTER

I'd appreciate some thoughts from you guys. I've got a '97GT with summer 245/45/17's.

Now that snow has arrived, i need winter grip. 245 seems wide for winter tire, doesn't it?
I called the dealer, and he's like "D'uh..."

Go to www.tirerack.com

They have some good info on what to do for winter tires and sizes. In a nutshell narrower tires have an easier time than wider sizes so maybe downsizing to 16inch rims and taller tires might be the way to go.
It also never hurts to stick some good sandbags in the trunk. I'll be enjoying my "red sled" all winter long.

Thanks man.
Here's what i did (back from lunch).
I'm oredering some 15inch steel rims, and am gonna put some 205/65/15 Good Year Ice Ultra Grips.

Apparently it should work great.

I'm a big Comp. T/A fan, but these good years came highly recommended.
Good FYI for anyone else grieving this problem.
