3:73 gears!

Ok, I have posted before asking about an H-pipe, but they are to expensive for a christmas gift if they had converters on them so I have been thinkin about 3:73 gears! Well, I am 15, and my birthday is next summer, and my Mustang is in storage so I want to have something on besides a K&N Air Filter. Most of you guys ( and gals) seem to have 3:73's on your Mustang's. I have found a set from Summit costs $189 or so. Is it wise to buy from them? Who could install them? My dad keeps saying they do terrible things to your M.P.G , is that true? Thanks in advance for any help! Merry (early) Christmas to all!

After you get used to driving with them 3.73s won't significantly effect fuel economy.

Summit Racing is a good company and you probably won't find gears for much less then that.

well you can believe this or not, but my MPG went UP. This was because most of my daily travel is on roads w/ 35mph speed limit. So cruising at 40mph would be 4th gear. When I got the 3:73's, i could cruise in 5th gear, thus lowering my rpm's and using less fuel. If you do highway driving, most likely you are going to see a loss of about 3mpg. But any mustang owner will tell you, the absolute best "bang for the buck" is a set of gears. You should plan on about $150-200 if you are going to need someone else install them. I found a place that sold 3:73's installed for $300, but by the time I stepped up to synthetic gear oil, then shim kit and all w/ tax it was about $400. But it was the best $400 I spent on that car.
I'll tell ya, save you money and do these few mods, and your car will feel great and be a blast to drive: gears, H-pipe, shifter, pulleys.

DUDE!!! Wait, get your gears from Diversified Marketing. $149 A SET!! That's alot better than $189 don't you think? THey are in michigan and have an add in MM&FF. And the are genuine Fordmotorsport gears. That's where I got mine and with shipping they were a grand total of $159 and had them in about 3 days. Save some money, man.

Does this company that sells them for $149 have a web site or magazine? I don't get MM&FF so how do I contact them? Thanks for all the advice guys!

I don't know about FF&MM magazine. I buy it off the newstands when they have good articles. About every other or third month. No flame intended.
I like to see/read on real life mods.

As for gears, i was skeptic until a friend had 'em put in his '99GT, and went for a ride.
He spun though 1st and 2nd, and got traction half way though 3rd! Big improvment!

As for fuel consumption. Buddy's right, drive in the city, it will go up, it only makes sense.
And if it doesn't, who cares. You'll be .3-.5 faster at the track :-)

With my 4.10's I might have lost 1 MPG at best, but it's kind of hard to tell since I'm on the gas alot.
