Transmission failure
An aquaintance of ours has been driving a '98 Mustang, which has developed significant transmission problems. He says the reason is that a friend of his 16-year-old's jammed it into first gear at 45-50 mph from the passenger seat (when his son was driving), without the clutch. I personally think he's been driving it harder than he should have been, since I'm doubtful that it's even possible to get past the gates at that speed, especially without clutch. I would apppreciate opinions on the subject...

What exactly is the transmission doing? We need to know what it is doing. You gave us no information.

I'll take a wild guess and say, rough shifts, occational grinding while shifting.
The T45 doesn't have the greatest syncros in the world, especially the 96-98s. They tend to wear very quickly even under resonable driving. But attempting to force the transmission into 1st at 45-50 mph, rather or not he managed to actually get it into gear, would not help the situation at all either. |
