SuperChip
Has anyone used one of these or heard of someone using one?
'97 GT |
Don't do it, there a waste of money and many people actually lose hp. There are a lot of better ways to gain some power. In this order for a 97GT-K&N air filter,3.73 gears, H or X pipe, Underdrive pulleys, Cold air kit...IMHO. That'll get you started.
BTW, welcome to the board. You can use the search function to answer most of the common questions. ------------------ T-Bones 1997 Cobra Wht/blk, Pro 5.0,FRPP 4.10's, aluminum driveshaft, FRPP throttle body, C&L 80mm MAF, K&N, Steeda U/D pulleys, Steeda timing adjuster, Flowmasters, s/f connectors, FRPP pro springs, BBK caster/cambers. <IMG SRC="http://web.ndak.net/~topel/TBone1.jpg"> [This message has been edited by T_Bone (edited 12-21-2000).] |
A superchip that is a result of a dyno tune is fine. A mail order chip of any type is a risk. Sometimes they work out fine (see the post about the JET chip), but sometimes they don't work at all, or actually hurt performance. But I agree with T_Bone, there are lots of other more productive things you could do first, then top it off with a good dyno tune.

Mail order chips for the most part are a waste of time. Try to find someone locally that can burn a chip and tune it on the dyno. I'm having this done next week to take car of my MIL light, speedo fix and of course to add some much need power to get me into the 12's! http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...rd/biggrin.gif

Mustang92 Can you fix the speedo error with a new chip? Do you have a pic with your Welds? I was wondering what would look better, the Pro stars or Convo pros.

Autologic chips and Diablo chips can, superchips can not. At least that's what I've been told. A place local to me is getting Diablo chips soon and I'll get a dyno tune through them and fix the speedo. I'm not to cocerned about mileage at this point I'm almost past my warrenty anyways.

What you have been told about Superchips and speedo correcting abilities is wrong. When I bought my V2 S-trim in January, they burned the Superchip for me and corrected the speedo on the first try. I also believe that the person that is making the Diablo Chips is an ex-Superchips employee and I think I know who it is. Anyway, the Generic chips are a waste, but tuned on a dyno, they work well. I'm Dynotuning my car at Mustang Magic next week with Superchips. We did a 00 GT with a Novi 2000 with Superchips and it made 361 rwhp & 358 rwtq with only flowmasters and the A/F ratio was 12.1-12.3 across the board with a Superchip.
