ENGINE MODS
Iv'e reading this column for a few weeks now and have gained a lot of info from most of the postings.
Being a new user let me tell you a little about mustang before I ask questions. I recently purchased (July) a 2000 S-281 Saleen N/A. The car runs great for what it is (advertised at 285 hp at 14.1 1/4 mile). I just got done installing a mac prochamber which seems to help on the top end. The car goes in for a rear gear change next week 4.10 vise the current 3.27 (this should made a big difference in performance). Not sure about the speedo fix yet. My question is has anyone installed headers on thier 2k 4.6 if so what kind did you buy and how difficult is the install. Next, would a 73.66 MM TB have any significant effect on the cars performance? Finally, has anyone seem carbon fiber headlight covers for the 2000 model, I saw these on a 97 cobra and they were aewsome.... Thanks guys in advance I look forward to future discussions....... regards, 00-525 |
Congrats on the gears....
I think that an Abbot ERA speed compensator will do the trick for the speedo problem. Unfortunately, I don't know what the Saleen comes with... I'll go through the order I usually recommend: Performance 1. Gears 2. After-market shifter 3. Pulleys 4. Cold-air induction 5. Subframe connectors 6. After market MAF 7. Sticky tires 8. Upper\Lower control arms Looks: 1. Eibach lowering springs The TB probably won't give you much, and the exhaust of the Saleen should be pretty open already, I wouldn't bother with the headers quite yet. (I've also heard that they can be a pain in the rear end) Some or all of the above may be included in the saleen kit, so modify if needed. The only other thing I might add that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg or involve engine work would be a small shot of nitrous. ------------------ "The Yellowjacket" 1998 Mustang GT 13.97@103 "Hey, you weren't supposed to be that fast!"- Turbo Eclipse Driver |
Agree with Hammer on the headers ... don't sweat it. PITA to install and minimum gain overall.
Congrats on the purchase of a head turner. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif The improved TB may help but the question I always ask first. Are you going NA or FI? All motor or super/turbocharged? Yeah no turbocharger yet but soon. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...d/rolleyes.gif ------------------ SMOKE Personalized Black 98 SVO Blown ROUSH without the side exhaust Dyno 303rwhp 338rwtrq Still working out the kinks!!! http://www.roushperf.com/vehicles/mu...ge2_lr_tit.gif |
I was told that the factory headers that are on the 1999-2000GT are big enough from what I was told when I purchased my MAC exhaust system. I installed a MAC H pipe Cats and mufflers last October on my 2000 GT and there is definately a vast improvment in power.
I have also upgraded to the Precision 3:73 gears and a B & M shift kit in my AOD. My next upgrade is a SC. I'm currently doing my homework on which supercharger to purchase. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Gary |
