question about the v8 and the v6

im interested in buying a stang but got a few questions about the engines.

Im looking into either the v6 or the v8. My questions is. How much faster is the v8 over the v6 in.

1. Acceleration (if you know any 0 - 60 numbers, i would appreciate it.

2. Quartar mile times

3. Top speed.

Thanks in advance for the information.

First off I want to say if V-8 all the way. Mostly for the sound man, dang that V-8 sounds good lol. As far as the 0-60 a calculated value for my car is 7 seconds. Of course the V-6 will be slower.

Quarter mile I am hoping my car will be in the low 15s to high 14s. A 94-98 V-6 automatic I think I could beat with my old 4cyl. S-10. A stick is a little faster.

As far as top speed I would have a clue. I know my car just has a fuel shut off, no speed limiter.

For the 99 and later Mustangs the GTs typically runs low 14s with a few freaks getting into the 13s. The V6s are in the 15s somewhere. 0-60, I think the GTs are a bit quicker then 6.0, not sure about the V6, but probably at least a second slower.

Top speed: I believe the V6s have a 112 mph speed limiter. The GTs w/ Z rated tires probably top out somewhere north of 150 (no limiter).

It's all personal preference and driving style. The V6's can be made fast as can the V8's. There are more options on the GT's and I like the interiors better. I would say go for the GT - you'll love it. There's just something about a big V8 rumbling that's cool.

I drove an auto V6 and it was a nice car, but there are a couple of differences that are worth noting:

1. A stock V8 with destroy a stock V6

2. The V8 torque make for easlier driving in both the city and highway

3. The GT will have better suspension and handling that is much better.

4. plus the V8 just sounds cool.

Thanks for the info, i guess il be getting the gt. More power is always good and with some v8 action, hell, time to spin da tires. HA. Thanks for all the input.

I have driven them both and in my opinion, v6's shouldn't even be considered Mustangs, there are too many on the road already. The GT will give you a lot more fun and you have to get it in a 5 speed. Autos are significantly slower anyways. 0-60 on v6 is 7.1, vs. the GT's 5.5. The GT is easier to make faster and with some money and some good guidance, you will be impressed. BTW, go for 99 and sooner, they have 275 HP vs. the 98's 225, and are a lot beefier and faster. I had a 97 and sold it the day after I drove the 99. Just drive them both and make the choice for yourself, it is your money, but also you image and excitement you are putting on the line. Hope this helps!!

Not to be picky but the 99's to 2001 have 260 HP not 275.

And please don't take this the wrong way, but be thankful to those V6 cars!

I know they are not fast and suck compared to the V8 car in performance. But the original 1964 mustang was no massive performance car either. The name of the game was to sell a sporty car at a reasonably cost that would catch with the younger auto buyers, just like our modern day V6.

The V6 sales numbers are what keeps the mustang alive! If you took the V6 sales numbers out of the picture I guarantee you that the mustang would be traveling the road of the Camaro and Firebird. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif

But I of course agree with you that there is no comparison between the 2 cars http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

If you are a performance minded person (even slightly) get a GT.

Another vote for the V8.

Why buy the V6 to spend a bunch of money to get it to the GT's performance when you can get the V8 the first time, having the better and more powerful engine as well as better suspension and overall setup. Then spend money on it to get better performance, which would take beyond more money that it's worth to get the V6 to that level (which in most cases isn't possible anyways). The only advantage to a V6 is maybe better gas mileage and lower insurance. Those are the ONLY advantages. You say price? True, but go get a Fox body 87-93 5.0 for a few thousand. Better and cheaper than a newer V6, eh? Even low mileage 5.0s are out there and cheaper. Usually cheaper insurance as well.

8 go for the 8... NO QUESTIONS IF OR BUTS!

0-60 in 5.4seconds, quatermile in high 13s (I do 13.69 with a stock Stang).

Handling is way nicer with the 17in.

PLUS the 01 comes with a sh!t load of standard "GT" things that used to be options before... Mach460, HoodScoop, Nice Headlights, Seats are better... DAMN all for the same price.
