help with 2001 gt

i recently purchased a 2001 gt and am looking to add more horsepower and torque. i'm thinking of adding new gears first but which should i get? im thinking either 3.55 or 3.73. what kind of gas mileage will i be giving up with these puppies? what is a good brand to get? also could someone suggest some other relatively low cost upgrades to get more power. thanks.

I have my 2001 on order and am collecting a list of mods to buy before it arrives. I am going to go with 4.30 gears only because my car won't get driven much. For you, I'd say go with 3.73 or 4.10 There isn't much difference between the 3.73's and 3.55's from what I understand. Also, If you are getting a 5-speed, an aftermarket shifter would be a good investment.

Congrats on the purchase and good luck with whatever modifications you make!

I have a 2001 GT with 3.73 gears on it- the gas mileage did not change that much- it just depends on whta you are doing with the car- drag racing alot or just occassionally amd mostly street use- thats what mine is for. It did dropped 3/10's off my qtr mile time- so its worth it. If you are going to do alot of drag racing maybe the 4.10's would be better but if not I would stick with 3.73's.
