99 V6 smoked me!

I got smoked the other day by this kid in his 99 V6. I told him I was having problems with my car, but didn't seem to care, so I raced him anyway. Crusing at 30, popped it in 2nd and away he went. I feel so ashamed. I had a problem with my comm port a few weeks ago not being able to read diags and got it resolved. Now my light is still on and pings at high rpm's. I've changed all the sensors except the IAT and the MAP. I know the 96 GT was a bad year for Ford, but I am stuck with this car for now and need to get it fixed so I don't keep getting beat. Any ideas?

Mike , don't feel too bad. There's a guy I know that has a V6 that gets over 320HP and it really goes but he dropped a lot of money into it, supercharger, airflow, gears, etc.
It's a TRUE sleeper. There's alot of ideas on the site...keep looking

Have you been able to hook up a scanner since it's been fixed? You might want to check and see if your plugs are gapped right , and if your fuel pressure is at the right psi. I think it should be 35-40 psi.
If you haven't had a scanner on you car since the fix I would. Hope I helped.

I'm thinking of getting a fuel pressure regulator to adjust the psi. I had the heads shaved about 6 months ago so I'm getting more compression, but I don't think it's getting enough fuel since then. I like my car even though it's the slowest GT on the block...Next year I'm going to change out the heads and crank so that should help. Any other ideas?

Since you've had the heads shaved has this problem been around? If so maybe all you need to do is adjust your timing to the new compression.

What other mods do tou have?

So far I have a 70MM TB, C&L 80MM MAF, pro 5.0 shifter, Flowmaster catback, pullies, hypertech chip and the heads shaved. Going to add 3.55's soon. How do I adjust the timing on it since the PCM controls that? Do I need to get the Steeda timing adjuster, which I don't know will work with my year or not. Any ideas? Thanks

I'am almost positive that the timing adjuster will work. If the knocking you hear is'nt the valves hitting the pistons.
