Full exhuast exchange
How many hps would be resonable to expect from a complete exhuast exhchange? Equal length short tube headers, off-road x and a set of macs or flows? What should I expect from an change like that on a 97 gt. thanks.

I would guess about a 15hp gain on a stock car.
|
i would have to say around 20-25 rwhp. i got offroad h-pipe & 2 chamber flowmasters and made my car noticably faster. Headers which i dont have also make a big difference

Don't waste the $ on the headers. It takes too much time and work and/or costs too much in labor to justify spending the $ for the small gains. The stock heads don't flow well enough to utilize the headers.
A high Flow H-pipe will be the best bang for buck. That should add anywhere from 8-14hp. A good set of mufflers, or a full cat-back may help to free up another 2-4hp. ------------------ 1997 Thunderbird 4.6L: Dynomax cat-back, MN-12 perf. offroad downtubes and Y-pipe w/ Magnaflow resonator, 80mm MAF with cone filter, B&M trans cooler, Inject-Tech chip, KVR front brake upgrade. 15.2 @ 91 before exhaust. Long tube headers are supposed to work a lot better on mod motors. Shorties supposedly only give 2-4hp.
|
Longtubes will cost $1000+ to buy and have installed. And the "decent gains" are on PI headed mustangs. For N/A 2V's, that $ can be better spent somewhere else.
The 96-98 heads in don't flow well enough to need headers in N/A situations. The $ to HP ratio would be foolish. |

Agreed but if there's forced induction in the future LTs have shown the best results. Build for the future. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif |
