Dyno time

Any tips or tricks I should do to try and help my car squeeze a little extra power before I have it dynoed monday?

My friend and I were talking about this: get a leaf blower, plug it in, and use it as supercharger. Would only work while stationary, unless you had an inverter or gas blower, but it would beinteresting to try. I bet you would get some more power.........

Skyman - They're going to squeeze the power for you.

just for sh/ts and giggles try putting in octane booster and bring a cooler full of bags of dry ice to put on the intake after the runs, if you're dynoing it you can also try taking off/out the air filter. Just some crazy ideas....You may not gain any power but it may SQUEEZE a little extra out.

Remove 1 quart of oil from your motor. According to MM&FF this was worth like 10HP due to the crank not churning in the oil. 1 quart low won't hurt either. Its worth a try. I would have a new fuel filter in place, a new oil change with lightweight synthetic oil- I use 0W30 by Mobil in my street car. Its like water, but does the job. Get to the dyno early to make sure the car is cooled off. Clean your K&N. This will ensure your motor is in tip top condition. You may also want to replce the cap and rotor, check your plug wires. I don't know how to do it but if you pull the spout connector you can run total timing, and this is supposed to be worth a few ponies, but isn't good for the street.

Whats the point in doing any of those things when the numbers you get won't reflect the cars true power on the street?

Skyman 03-11-2001 09:08 PM

Ive run total timing, my car definatly feels stronger on it, but I took it off from advice of people here.

I wan to see what tis actually putting out and tune it by that. I gave it a tune up a while back, mayb eI'll clean the K/N again.

What fuel should I run? I never ping! never! I have a full tank of 87 now.

How do you remove only 1 quart?

I just gave it a synthetic oil change...

At the place your taking it too, how much do they charge to run it on their dyno?

withamc 03-11-2001 09:52 PM

SKYMAN-

Run 92 for the test - he'll advance the timing to get the best power out of it, but if you start pinging that's where you stop. I just run 92 all the time. It's like $2 or $3 a tank more, but after spending thousands on an engine and gear swap, why shortchange the gas?

Sky, Killercanary was right about m&ff getting 10hp from removing 1 quart, but what he forgot to mention was that the car had too much oil.

Just for fun, If I were you, i would run it with open headers, I would Think About 10hp gain
later...
