black smoke coming from tailpipes

black smoke comes from them when I take off from a light. The base timing( at the crank) is set at 13 degrees, fuel pressure is set at 40 Thanx

You're running rich. Probably because of the off road H pipe. Even if you weren't running all that rich, having no cats would amplify the black smoke condition. Basically what black smoke is, is an incomplete burn of the fuel.

How's your fuel economy?

Burning oil can lead to black smoke too. You could have a fauly piston ring, but I would check the a/f ratio first.

Yea, im running rich too, my h-pipe, and 160 stat i blame, i reved up my motor, and looked back, and dont see any smoke, but i have an accell supercoil, which i think makes sure the fuel is burned before it is excavated.

maybe look at your plugs.

Unit 5302,

Fuel economy sux ever since I bumped the timing up. It's funny at stoplights sometimes cause there will be this fag behind me and when I leave and look back I can't see him no more. I just hope that doesn't happen with po po! It only leaves a little smoke sometimes and it runs ALOT better so guess I'll just leave it for awhile.

Coupe5oh,

Plugs are fine. Mine doesn't leave smoke every time either. I think I will invest in an MSD coil later.

blueneonman1,

It sux oil so I wouldn't doubt if a ring is going. In a month it will be down a quart. Every two weeks I have to add about a 1/2 qt. Oh well, I work at Tires Plus where I get Valvoline for free so...till my rebuild.

Thanx everyone!
