GM employee drives a Ford...
Being as I drive a '99 SVT to work everyday my co-workers tend to "give me the business" everytime they see me in or around the Stang. Well one guy has a '00 Z28 and says he'll run me next spring but another poor soul who owns a '95 LT1 Z didn't want to wait. Ok! So we meet up this past Saturday and run four times. Needless to say, I made easy work of him everytime leaving him by at least 5 cars. Now I'll go get that LS1 in the spring. By that time I'll have my exhaust and 4.30's in. The '00 Z is Stock so I should get him relatively easy as well. Any advice?

That ls1 is faster than that lt1. I think you should practice your launch and get good tires. You might want to look into a MAF, I hear that will help a bit.
You might want to post this question in the Modular forum, those guys can probably help you out alot more. You also might be interested in what Bob Cosby(Corral) has done to his car. Probably alittle more than what you have in mind but it may give you some ideas. |
Yeah I know about the monster LS1's!! I just want it to be a close race. Every LS1 vs. Cobra race I've seen/heard about ended with the Cobra being 4 or 5 cars behind after 2nd gear! I plan on being next to or in front of after 2nd and 3rd gear.

I ran a buddy's 98 T/A vert with the 97 Cobra vert I had. I had him by half a car until around 70 then he just pulled away. I'd say race him to 70 ;)

Well by us racing on the street we probably won't be able to go too much faster than 70 anyway. I think I'll be able to keep him close (or behind) through 80-90mph. Plus I modded my air box and ran ram air down to the fog light bezels (the cobras have two holes in each side, one wide open hole next to the light itself). By the way, does anyone know why Ford put the two extra holes in the front nose of the '99+ Cobras? The holes in the fog light bezels?

If you have your gears installed and some sticky tires and you learn how to launch with IRS, then you should be able to keep up with or even beat him. With the two cars being similar and probably similar performance after your planned mods, then it will most likely come down to who has the better launch. Those cobra's are difficult to launch hard without getting excessive axle hop / windup. Good Luck!

I would watch out for that LS1. My car has gone 13.6 in the 1/4 with a K&N, gears, cat-back, pulleys, and tires, and I know I wouldn't beat my friends SS with the LS1. He's gone 13.3 with an SLP exhaust and Granatelli lid. If you learn how to launch it and get those mods, you should take him.

It just depends on the car and driver. Some of the 01's, and 02's are pulling off 12 second 1/4's all stock. (M6's that is). And alot are pulling off 12's with just a lid. But some of the A4 guys are running 13.01's. Poor Lt1......Nice kill! Get those gears, some sticky tires, and full exhaust, and you should hang with him or maybe smoke his as$, most of the time it's all driver anyway.
