I put my foot in my mouth...

I appologize to everyone for saying a 400hp 302 can't be built with low comrpession and all that crap.

Because today I was shocked. After dyno tuneing I made 332rwhp and 351rwtq on 87 octane with 16 deg timing with BOX Stock TFS heads, Edelbrock performer intake and E303 cam, and all accessories. This converts to 405FWHP at 18% loss.

So I see 450 no problem with the drop of power steering and some higer compression.

I am just replying back from my thread in the Street Racers Corner.

Congrats on the dyno!!! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif I knew your car needed it because if mine picked up some on a stock motor, then I knew yours needed to be dialed-in.

Now that I know your dyno numbers, gearing wise, I would go with 4.10's on your car. This will allow you cross about 300 rpms over your HP peak in 4th gear while using a 26" slick. About 5,800 rpms or so. This is assuming you will stay N/A. But, even if you go poweradder, just get 28" slicks to cover the extra MPH. *If you stay with 3.73's, you won't even get to your HP peak in 4th gear. You will cross the traps at about 5300 rpms. Of course, just try it out first with what you got and see how it goes. I am sure you will be happy with the results either way.

If you got slicks, then get ready to get a roll bar installed, because you will surely be in the 11's with a good launch. I know a guy with a 93GT with 295rwhp that ran 11.98 @ 112 MPH, race weight of 3200 lbs, and with a good launch on BFG Drag radials. So, launch hard, drive it like you stole it, and reap the benefits. Just don't blow the rear out like me!!! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

My car only dynoed 298 rwhp @ 6300 rpms and 294 rwtq at 4700 rpms. My race weight is 3290 lbs. with me in the car. And look what I ran.

FYI, my dyno numbers are alittle low because of my 4.56's and the entire rearend was built the day prior and due to friction from not being broken-in made my numbers show up lower than expected. But, they still aren't near yours though. Mine are actually just over 300-305 rwhp and rwtq.

Keep me updated on your progress.

WAY TO GO!!! That's increadible numbers! I knew you were making some great power when I saw your burnout in 3 gears!!!! I can't wait to finish my car off now to see where I'm at myself. I called today and I guess my AFR heads are finally done- it only took since January!!! Again, congratulations on some great numbers.

Thanks guys! Jason- I think that I have 4.10's. Im not positive, but Im going to jack it up and find out for sure soon as I am feeling better, I'm kinda sick right now. Also my cars stock weight is 3280. Im going to put in race seats, but how did you get your car so light? I weigh 175 so 3280+175+30lb of fuel is like 3485 race weight, and my car is a fox body! If I could get to a 3200 race weight that would be awesome cuz I should trap 112+ then! I would be so stoked. I sold my ET streets and I'm going to order a set of slicks soon, cuz the 26x11.5" just wont fit anymore.

I'm gonna need a small tire.

BOWTIEEATER- Im gonna stay with the 302 for now. It maybe cheaper, and with the power its making I'm quite happy with it right now!

Unit- I guess thats why I beat that 383!

Killer numbers Skyman - What HP did you start the session out with and what changes did they make to tune it? I knew you had to be higher than I was, because I've only got unported GT40P heads and I'm running cats. Especially after seeing that 3 gear burnout.

hehehe..Well it's getting the big Anderson cam (fly cutting the pistons), my new Holley heads should be here (the other ones had bad seals and guides) early next week. I am also porting and portmatching to a 1262 gasket. I switched to a electric fan, full MSD ignition, 76mm C&L kit, and I am rebuilding the tranny. We are welding in the roll bar this weekend, 8pt S&W, but we are making a "X" in the back to the shock towers, also added a bar going from tower to tower. The back seat has been removed and the kicker bars will go to the torque boxes, I scrapped all the deadonder pff the floors, 40lbs of weight, plus the removal of the beack seat anothe 20+lbs, no padding under any of the plastic panels, no padding in the back, 2 JAZ polyethylene racing seats, I elimininated the P/S, A/C, smog pump (all emissions is gone) and any other weight I could up front, the battery is now in the hatch also. I am alomost finshed re-routing the wires in the engine bay for a cleaner look also. THen when the money allows I am finally upgrading the rear to 31 or 33 splines, carrier undecieded, and 4:30 gears looking for low 11's NA. I hope to way in around 3000-3050 with me 175lbs. I have been doing way too much this winter, I dropped a ton of money in the new motor last April and she's all apart now more some upgrades. I guess I'll never be satisfied.

I think that is about all of it http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif,

Rick

Awesome numbers Sky. BTW what were your 1st pull numbers like (you thought your car was in a poor state of tune). I can only hope for something that close - I am going to dyno this spring.
again congrats!! Now you need to run it.

Well first pull was 293rwhp at 5500rpm.

Sounds good rick. I really gotta lighten up my car. I got the JAZ seats too. Theyre kinda hard feeling huh? I sit down in my comfy flofit seats and I always get second thoughts about puttin them in. But I'm going to soon. I dont have the guts to pull the A/C yet. Summers soo hot here.

I think the secret in the combo lies that everything is fiarly well matched, or I just got lucky.

I don't go to "THE" saleen board anymore, but I spend 90% of my time on http://talk.saleenchat.com. Its most of the regulars that frequented the "old" saleen board when it was decent. QKAT is still around, though not as much as he used to be. The link above won't work right now as the board was to be shut down for around 10 days beginning last week, but check it later this week and it should be up. Its a real nice atmosphere, kinda like "CHEERS"- everyone knows your name. There are still a good bit of technical discussions there, but nothing like here or the other boards, but the lounge there is cool. There is a big event planned by one of the regulars there coming up this 4th of July in Wash D.C.- its gonna be huge. It started out as just a few of us getting together, but now it exploded into a full on, multi-day event with numerous mustang clubs going. I'm only going on friday as it is the track night- and I'd like to gain some bragging rights http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif, but since its only like 2-3 weeks before my wedding, I can't afford to go the entire weekend. Drop me an email if you want QKAT's email address- he probably won't believe it though- you know what I mean.

Skyman, could you do me a favor and check to see if you really have those 4:10 gears?

I have been thinking about doing a gear swap next month for my 87GT T-5. I'm just a little worried that i might go too much with the 4:10's.

thanks

I'm checking as soon as I'm over being sick and get out of infront of this monitor http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif. Should be tomorrow or so.
