1996 Gt Poroblem
 

I am posting this for a friend who owns a 1996 GT with no mods. I have had good luck with postings for problems and thought I could get some advice.
1996 GT 4.6L has intermittent problem where the car occasionnally will not start without pressing the accelerator pedal half way. Once the car is running it will not hold an idle, if the clutch is depressed and your foot is off the accelerator the car will stall. No indicator lights come on. At other times the car starts and runs fine. Premium gas is used and problems occur with same tank of gas.
Any advice suggestions would be appreciated.

I would have someone pull the codes and check if you are geting any.
But an option is to change the fuel filter just to make sure its not clogged. Then if it still does it, you may have worn out fuel pump. Look into that.
Anybody else have any advice?

clean the iac solenoid with some carb cleaner, it's sticking. common problem. good luck.

Thanks for the replies, I'll post later and let you know if the problem is resolved.

I have same problems. One day it starts up runs fine all day, next it wont stay running when cold then barely keeps a 500rpm idle once warm.

I completely forgot about IAC which I will have to take a look at. I'm glad I read this post.

Was thinking my fuel filter is bad and bought one to replace it. Think I will still change filter since it has 35k miles on it.
