I know it's pretty pathetic, but...
...I enjoy watching High Speed Pursuits (H.S.P.) on TV. I know that's not healthy, but I can't help it. Ever since Sept. 11, air space over Los Angeles has been restricted, and the news helicopters aren't allowed to fly over the city, and must remain 1 mile off the coast. Yesterday afternoon, some moron in a convertible K-car decided to go for a drive. He elected to take the 5 freeway, which connects Los Angeles and San Diego. A large portion of the 5 runs along the coast, which permitted a local news helicopter to film it, from a mile offshore. Just as the pilot was warning those of us watching that he was almost to the point near San Diego at which he would no longer be permitted to fly over the freeway, the idiot got off and went back the other way. Some other driver in a Suburban saw this guy coming, and forced him into the dirt in the center median. The K-car got loose, spun around, and was clipped by a CHP cruiser. He straightened himself out, and tried to drive away, but another CHP cruiser managed to get his pushbar tangled with the K-car's bumper while trying to perform a PIT manuver. He (CHP) pushed the guy, who was now at a 45 degree angle, a couple hundred yards down the freeway before another CHP cruiser clipped him and spun him around. It all ended painlessly with no injuries, and fed my sad desire to see this type of crap. Prior to 9/11, there was 2 to 3 of these being televised every week. Maybe that's why I became such a H.S.P junkie.
Anyone know of a 12 step program for them? Take care, -Chris |
step one take thier freaking keys away.hehe, no really i like those shows also because i cant beleive how stupid those people are you cant out run a radio hehe:rolleyes:

I have seen one of those on TV a the car was a Mustang (that they said the guy had stole not STOCK) and it dusted the cops and they lost the car But that day the guys got Nailed In trying to enter Mexico. It was cool the stang out ran the chopper that was following it. They were picked up like 30 min later.

A K-car, huh?...lol... How bad was that 2.2 smoking? I'll bet the speeds were approaching 80 miles an hour!...lol... I get the LA locals on satellite, but I have yet to see one live. (dammit!) Sounds like with the airspace restrictions my chances are even slimmer!

You guys ever see then one where the 2 teenage kids were outrunning the cops in a S-10 (stolen BBQ in the bed and all). They ran a stop sign just as a semi was coming? That one was nasty.

I used to love watching all the high speeds chases when i was in Ca. It seemed like there was at least one a week. The coolest one i ever saw a dude out ran the helicotpers on a bike it was funny as hell. Then he just pulled over and stopped and waited for the cops to show up.

i watched 1 with an older 911 porsche
of course it wasn't live but heyy well around here there wasa mid 90's vette stolen and it turned down the concession road where my mo works and i guess the vette was killing the cop cars i can't remeber wut happened though i still think if someone gave me a 911 turbo i could put run the cops we don't have choppers around here |

On the subject of HSP's, there was once a service (in california i think) in which a guy would send you a beeper message whenever a chase was on tv. I hope you don't get to that level! |
dinomite-
I considered it, but they became so common here, you didn't need a beeper service. andy- It must have had the 2.5 because that piece ran better than any 2.2 K-car I've ever seen. The chase covered 2 hours and 3 counties. They said on the news today that the guy was spun out on meth, and already had two strikes, which meant if he got caught, he's looking at life without the possibility of parole. He got caught. Take care, -Chris |

Could you imagine a cop - "He just turned onto 5th AV". Cop turns to follow then gets on radio - "Well, he either turned North or South on 17th street" and you're actually behind him hehe. |
I saw one the other day, this newer Z28 was running from the cops, and he was doing a decent job outrunning him, until.....The Z28 Highway patrol came, and he was right on his as$ the whole time. And then there is that one where the bike out ran the cops(and I think it was like a ninja 500, or a Ninja 600E) and the helicopter is the only one on him, and he runs a stop sign and hits a car straight on doing like 60mph, and he is on the ground twitching and barely moving, and he's just twitching for like a minute, I think he was paralized or something, and then a cop comes up, jumps out of his patrol car, and goes and kicks him in the head, and handcuffs him, and the helicopter news is saying "and he's struggling with the officer." It was more like he broke his neck and was having convulsions..........

Well if you are going a little fast and you see some lights behind you if you are able to turn off and pull up in someone's driveway at night and turn off the lights before he gets close then you might get away. If a cop starts chasing you down the highway and you start running 100+mph weaving through traffic then they might as well shoot you because you could kill someone.
