Dan, question about the board

Hey Dan,

Great choice on the board! VBulletin is #1!

Anyhow I was wondering if you could tell me the size of your mysql database?

I ask because I would like to know just how big these things can get.

Thanks

Right now the MustangWorks.com and FunFord.com message boards MySQL databases are 235 Megs and growing quickly due to posts, member growth, avatars, and attachments... And, yes, the later binary data is also stored within the database, not as files on the server.

Thanks Dan!

I have to switch hosts, they will only give me a 10MB database :(

Also I was wondering if you could tell me your monthly bandwith is? All this info will help me find a new host.

Thanks

OMG!. Dude, we use over 60 GIGS a month. :eek:

LOL

LOL well that is crazy!

I know it may be hard, but do you think just the one site mustangworks.com with minimal videos and the message board would be under 5GB a month?

I cannot afford a dedicated server, but I did find a nice shared one, good price but only 5GB bandwith.

No. Even taking the entire video section down we'd still be well over 5 GB per month of bandwidth usage. We also have multiple dedicated servers now, not just one. And, our main dedicated server is sitting at a large scale hosting provider behind multiple OC3's. Two other servers are sitting locally behind a 1 Megabit SDSL Business circuit.

Yesterday alone forums.mustangworks.com, the domain the message board alone resides on, transferred 970,874,353 bytes (just shy of 1 GB) of data outbound. And, that's just the message board of MustangWorks.com, not counting FunFord.com's message board... :D

Hey Dan!

Thanks for the help.

I switched to a new host that will allow 45+ connections to the database. They allow 6GB of traffic, I can upgrade if I like. The database can be as much as my webspace currently 200MB (also can be upgraded)

I am running VBulletin 2.2.0, runs FAST! It is a 100% linux server.

Here is what I get:

====
Webspace - 200MB
Bandwidth - 6000MB / 6GB
POP E-mails - 35
Sub-domains - 10
FTP Accounts - 1
MySQL - 10
Mailing Lists - 10
====
Dedicated IP
CGI-BIN
Control Panel
Telnet/SSH
PHP4
SSL
Web Stats
FrontPage Ext.
Real Audio/Video
ImageMagick
Anonymous FTP
Pass Protected Dirs
Shopping Cart
Pre Configured CGI
99.5% Uptime Guarantee
Search Engine Submit
30 Money Back Guarantee
Perl5
MySQL
Daily Backups
Perl 5
Python
Shared SSL Certificate
Subdomains
E-mail Forwarders
Auto - Responders
====
Server Specs
Dual Intel Processors
256KB cache
Multiple DS3, OC3, OC12
Fiber Optic Connections
====

And the price is crazy cheap!

Well anyhow, thanks for all the help. I do not plan on getting to your size any time soon so I should be ok for a while :D
